Roof and Satellite Maintenance

Having a satellite installed on your roof can greatly improved your television viewing experience. But, to make sure that you can fully enjoy this additional feature, there are some minor adjustments required to protect your roofing and your satellite from any potential damage.

Since your satellite is located on the top of your home, you should make sure that you provide a safe and reliable environment so that it can clearly pick up TV signals and it can withstand outdoor conditions.

To begin with, you should make sure that your roof is free of any debris or from falling objects such as tree branches. If you do have a tree near your house, then you should trim its branches to prevent them from falling on your satellite or roofing, causing damage to your property, especially during strong winds. Another tip is to check if there are any mould growing on the shingles. Once you see dark lines, take them as signs of moulds and for you to give your roof a good cleaning. You can use a garden hose to wash the dirt. Begin from the top so that the water will flow downwards and will avoid getting stuck in between the slats. If there are signs of rotting or breakage, you should immediately replace or repair them. You would not want to break your satellite and your home because your roofing suddenly caves in, or a part of it breaks off, would you? In addition to this, you can place flashing over the bolts of the satellite to give it more protection from leaks. Lastly, apply a de-icing product to safeguard your satellite from the snow.
